Gold Standard
The Drive Car of the Year awards spread across 18 categories and winners must excel during a comprehensive testing programme and against the established judging criteria of Safety, Performance, Powertrain, Fuel Efficiency, Value for Money, Technology, Handling & Ride Quality, and Interior Comfort and Design.
Contenders are judged against the above criteria over a two-week period by a panel of industry experts. Testing takes place on both real-world roads and at specialised testing facilities, and it provides a deep dive into the capabilities of all contenders. The rigorous testing procedure covers all aspects of vehicle performance and usability from emergency braking to luggage space and baby seat fitment. Only after this intensive test is a vehicle declared the best in its class.
Against this background, both the Mercedes-Benz C 200 and Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4MATIC have stood tall at the 2024 Drive Car of the Year awards. The Mercedes-Benz C 200 has been awarded 2024 Drive Car of the Year Best Luxury Car under $100k, and the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4MATIC has won the 2024 Drive Car of the Year Best Luxury SUV under $150k.
The Mercedes-Benz C 200 earned its victory thanks to its outstanding combination of luxury and value. Its design speaks both to the unrivalled heritage of Mercedes-Benz and to the company’s avant-garde aesthetic. The C 200 also impresses with its blend of frugal performance and outstanding ride comfort, a combination that pleases both the driver and passengers.
With its full suite of active and passive safety technology, including; 10 airbags, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert, reverse automatic emergency braking, 360-degree cameras, forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking with pedestrian protection, and stability and traction control.
Integrated technology is another Mercedes-Benz pillar and the C 200 runs the brand’s renowned MBUX operating system. A 12.3-inch screen provides information to the driver, while an 11.9-inch central touchscreen display allows both front seat occupants to access many of the vehicle’s controls through crystal-clear graphics and an easy-to-use interface.
Bringing luxury to every day and every journey, the Mercedes-Benz C 200 is the 2024 Drive Car of the Year Best Luxury Car under $100k.

Spend any time with the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4MATIC and it’s easy to understand its appeal. Indeed, the attraction starts with the standard-fit AMG Line aesthetic enhancements that includes body-colour wheel arches and aluminium-look tapered running boards. The generous equipment list includes panoramic sunroof, metallic paint, 20-inch alloys and head-up display. New to the second-generation GLC is an off-road display mode that shows incline, gradient, compass and altitude. Additionally, the ‘transparent bonnet’ feature provides a view on the central screen of obstacles in front of or under the vehicle. While it’s part of the Off-Road driving mode, the ‘transparent bonnet’ is a boon in avoiding everyday obstacles.
Under the actual bonnet of the GLC 300 4MATIC resides a turbocharged 1999cc four-cylinder engine that combines with a mild hybrid system to deliver outstanding fuel efficiency (7.7L/100km on the combined cycle) and robust outputs of 190kW and 400Nm.
With perfectly blended levels of luxury, practicality, safety, performance and technology, the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4MATIC is the 2024 Drive Car of the Year Best Luxury SUV under $150k.
