In the history of the automobile, sedans are one of the most traditional body styles – signifying strength, utility, heritage and performance. For Mercedes-Benz, sedans represent contemporary design, new technologies and a progressive, avant-garde approach to luxury. Here, we explore their enduring beauty.
A timeless classic
The Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sedan is known for offering a masterful blend of classic design features and advanced engineering. The launch of the very first C-Class Sedan – the 202 series – in 1993 came with impressive technical innovations and a timeless, elegant look.
“The design of the first C-Class was intended to appeal to a broad public with a sleek, aesthetic and timeless form,” says Professor Peter Pfeiffer, head of design at Mercedes-Benz from 1999 to 2008. “It fitted naturally into the design idiom of the brand. Its success showed that this consolidation, which was planned from the beginning, was the right way to go. The 202 series became a runaway success.”
When it comes to the current C-Class Sedan, the enhanced driver and passenger experience has made it a touchstone of the Mercedes-Benz range and the broader market of luxury sedans.
Powered by a smooth 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, the C 200 opens the C-Class range with 150kW and 300Nm, while the C 300 uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine to deliver 190kW and 400Nm. Both models feature EQ Boost – a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that incorporates an integrated starter-generator.
