A pair of adjustable rotary configuration dials towards the bottom of the steering wheel allow easy, intuitive control of the digital displays.

 

The driver-focused cockpit features the latest MBUX system with AMG-specific displays, including a track timer and G-force meter. The vertical 11.9-inch central display works in harmony with the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, creating a tech-forward yet elegant environment.

The revolutionary drive system is what sets this vehicle apart. At the heart of the AMG GLC 63 S E PERFORMANCE lies a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine, enhanced by an electric exhaust gas turbocharger and paired with a rear-mounted electric drive unit. This sophisticated powertrain produces a combined output of 500kW and 1020Nm, with the rear-mounted electric motor producing 150kW of power and 320Nm of torque from the 6.1kWh lithium-ion battery.

 

That innovative high-voltage battery, developed in close collaboration with the Mercedes-AMG F1 program, provides rapid energy deployment and recovery. The electric drive unit sends its power to the front wheels to deliver instant acceleration, while the electric exhaust gas turbocharger virtually eliminates turbo lag, providing instantaneous response throughout the rev range. 

Behind the wheel: distinctly AMG

 

Starting up this vehicle instantly awakens its character – a character that’s distinctly AMG. The AMG-specific exhaust system delivers a sophisticated soundtrack that varies with each driving mode (there are eight to choose from!), from a subtle purr in Electric mode to a full-throated growl in Race mode.

 

Acceleration is nothing short of exhilarating. With the electric boost and sophisticated turbocharging system, you can go from 0-100km/h in just 3.5 seconds, accompanied by an adrenaline-inducing surge of torque.

 

The AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9G transmission delivers lightning-quick gear changes and extra traction during rapid acceleration, offering a real sense of the car’s motorsport origins. In Sport+ mode, each upshift is accompanied by a satisfying crack from the exhaust, while downshifts are executed with perfect rev-matching. Of course, it’s in Race mode that the full potential of the E PERFORMANCE system is unleashed.

 

For daily driving, Comfort mode delivers surprising refinement, excellent noise insulation and a compliant ride. Handling is equally impressive; the AMG RIDE CONTROL+ suspension with adaptive damping constantly adjusts to road conditions and driving style. Through corners, the wider track width and rear-axle steering provide exceptional agility. The steering is ideally weighted – light enough for comfortable cruising but providing increasing resistance and feedback as you pick up speed.

 

Most impressive is how the vehicle manages its considerable weight. Despite carrying a complex hybrid system, the AMG GLC 63 S E PERFORMANCE feels remarkably nimble.
