This innovative plug-in hybrid car is equipped with a three-litre, turbocharged in-line six-cylinder engine, boosted by a 120kW electric motor. The result is a performance output of up to 450kW and a colossal 750Nm of torque.

The battery boasts a capacity of 28.6kWh, which is substantial for a plug-in hybrid in this class. Its power is channelled through an AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT nine-speed transmission system, providing lightning-quick gear changes and seamless acceleration.

The powertrain offers an NEDC-tested 100km of pure electric driving range, while the hybrid system seamlessly integrates electric and combustion power to deliver remarkable fuel economy.

At lower speeds, the steering is incredibly responsive, allowing for tight cornering and easier parking. The high-performance braking system of the AMG E 53 instills confidence in the driver. The brakes are progressive, with the regenerative system helping to recover energy during deceleration. Steering wheel-mounted shift paddles allow you to choose from four different levels of braking power, up to 120kW. At the lowest level, you’ll hardly feel the car slowing down, while the highest level delivers a strong braking effect that lets you drive mostly using just the accelerator.

When switching to electric-only mode, the sedan glides quietly through streets and creates a serene driving experience. The electric-only range is sufficient for most daily commutes, making it perfect for navigating through traffic jams or for a quick jaunt around town.
