Windows by Design are no stranger to a high-end project. With work featured on Grand Designs and several magazine write-ups under their belt, it’s apparent that they are a force to be reckoned with. They didn’t get where they are by choosing the easy road of mass production though – this is a company that delivers style and functionality.

Windows by Design began in 2005 when CEO Manfred Krauser was looking for a new challenge in the construction industry and suggested to his family that they launch a window company. Starting off, they manufactured standard windows, but soon found themselves designing windows for architecturally designed homes. The rest, as they say, is history.

Clearly, Windows by Design are not only striving for a better business today, but also for a better world tomorrow. To increase sustainability, the team works with a mixture of standard aluminium and thermally broken frames, in conjunction with Argon-filled double-glazed units using low emissivity (LowE) glass. This glass helps reduce the amount of radiation (heat) emitted or absorbed, thereby saving energy.

Australia has experienced some extraordinary weather recently, something Windows by Design is always conscious of when designing and installing a fitout. “All windows produced are made according to the Australian Standards and tested thoroughly by our licenced supplier – Architectural Window Supplies”, explains director Matt Watkins.

When it came time to find a suitable vehicle for their work, Windows by Design needed to make sure it too met high standards. They opted for a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter – it’s their work van, and carries tools and spare parts to worksites all over Victoria. The team were after a high-end van that would not only prove itself with long-term reliability but also offer plenty of space and carrying capacity. “After inspecting several different options it became very clear that the Mercedes-Benz Van offering was our perfect choice,” Watkins says.

Some of the Sprinter’s features that Windows by Design favour?

· Comfortable seating
· Fantastic storage capacity
· Easy access from both sides and rear of the van
· Good visibility from the driver’s seat
· The crystal-clear reverse camera

The skilled team often has to overcome the challenge of conceiving designs that meet the visions of the designers, but that also satisfy the Victorian building requirements. Watkins also explains that sometimes his team members do some serious heavy lifting, installing glass panes that weigh more than 500kg.

It is clear Windows by Design love what they do, but Watkins says they don’t have one favourite project. “We treat all our jobs on their own merit – they all have their own intricate details. All jobs are produced with the same detail and care and therefore it’s very difficult to single out one project.”

It seems everyone wants Windows by Design for their next project, and Watkins says this growth is always welcome. “We will be looking to further deliver our design solutions across greater parts of Victoria.”

We can’t wait to see what is next for this business, and hope that their Sprinter serves them well for years to come!
