Luxury glamping on Cockatoo Island.

When you think of glamping, fancy tents might spring to mind. But the team at Mercedes-Benz Vans and Airbnb teamed up and took luxury glamping to the next level when they invited nine couples to stay on Cockatoo Island in Marco Polo ACTIVITY vans fitted out by celebrity stylist Megan Morton.

On August 10, the first lucky guests checked in for the night and slept soundly on their two metre long bedding. They woke up surrounded by magnificent views of the Sydney Harbour and were treated to hampers and breakfast by Sonoma bakery.

The event was part of the Australian market launch of the Marco Polo ACTIVITY. According to Diane Tarr, Managing Director of Mercedes-Benz Vans Australia and New Zealand, it provided an opportunity for people to experience the potential of the van first-hand. ‘Instead of a regular vehicle launch, we wanted to bring the spirit of the Marco Polo to life – the feeling of adventure, and the notion that with the Marco Polo ACTIVITY you can experience truly unique destinations. What better way to do this than to wake up with the most iconic view in the world – Sydney Harbour,’ she said.

Mercedes-Benz Vans friend of the brand Megan Morton says, ‘When it comes to glamping there are three essential ‘M’s to consider: merlot, marshmallows and mohair.’ Guests were treated to all three.

Although just 18 people had the chance to sleep at a World Heritage Site, the event proved that there are endless opportunities for adventure in the Marco Polo ACTIVITY. With a pop-up roof space for an extra bed, there’s space for the whole family.

It provides the flexibility to take to the road in search of adventure without having to leave creature comforts at home. Additional features include a three-seater bench seat, drawer storage and swivelling seats that enable owners to turn the interior into a lounge room on demand.

It’s ideal for all conditions, too. When blustery weather strikes, travellers can turn on the auxiliary heating and settle in for a cosy evening instead of shivering in a tent. Glamping now looks more appealing than ever before.
