And because it responds immediately to the driver's wishes. Its name: 9G-TRONIC with nine optimally coordinated gears. Developed in-house by Mercedes-Benz.

Nine gears for unrivalled comfort. 9G-TRONIC impresses with even swifter and smoother gear changes. At the same time 9G-TRONIC helps reduce fuel consumption. The wider gear spread makes a reduction of the engine speed possible. With unchanged excellent performance, ride quality is enhanced and noise emission is reduced.

4MATIC all-wheel drive
Better contact between the engine and the powertrain is scarcely possible: because all the wheels are driven directly, the car has excellent driving dynamics. For better pulling away and acceleration, in particular on unfavourable road surfaces.
Instead of using differential locks, the 4MATIC system employs the electronically controlled 4ETS traction system and also works together with the Electronic Stability Program ESP®, which is standard in all Mercedes-Benz passenger cars.*All-wheel drive only available on CLS 450 4MATIC and CLS 53 4MATIC+.
