In the 25 years since the first edition of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia, Australian fashion has become a global force. In 2020, Mercedes-Benz will celebrate with a star-studded edition of its annual ‘Mercedes-Benz Presents’ extravaganza, showcasing the past and present stars of Australian fashion along with the memorable moments that have pushed the creative boundaries.

The celebration event, Mercedes-Benz Presents: 25 Years of Australian Fashion, will be held in the evening on Monday 11 May with two shows at Carriageworks, Sydney. The first will be attended by trade and media, while a second show invites consumers to purchase tickets for the first time to a headlining event on the official MBFWA schedule.

This coincides with MBFWA’s updated event format in 2020, with the debut of its firstever integrated consumer offering as part of the main designer schedule. Such an evolution brings industry experts and fashion’s most passionate consumers together in one cohesive celebration of Resort ’21 collections.

Consumers will be invited to purchase tickets to selected designer shows on the official five-day schedule, attend seminars and special events, and access VIP packages via MBFWA: The Experience.

The signature event – Mercedes-Benz Presents: 25 Years of Australian Fashion – will pay homage to the iconic designers and moments from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia over the past 25 years.

Attendees can expect a roll call of Australian fashion luminaries, many of whom have propelled their careers from a coveted appearance in the iconic annual fashion showcase. Designs representing the past, present and future of Australian fashion will feature.

The Resort ‘21 schedule will also include special events to celebrate and commemorate the Australian fashion industry, and at the same time embrace a new architecture reflecting the cultural shifts impacting the global fashion industry today.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia was born in 1996. The concept has since been replicated in dozens of countries around the world.

Horst von Sanden, the current CEO and Managing Director of Mercedes-Benz Australia/Pacific said: “The opportunities provided by Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia have launched many talented individuals and brands onto the world stage.

“We’re all looking forward to an exciting show in 2020 that will star some of the great names of the past 25 years and remind everyone what an accomplished fashion industry we have here in Australia.”

Natalie Xenita, Executive Director of IMG’s fashion events group, Asia-Pacific region, which stages the event, said: “In its 25th year, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia will celebrate the talented individuals who have built an enduring and vibrant fashion industry, as well as those who are shaping its future. We are excited to commemorate the occasion with a spectacular tribute to the Australian fashion industry at MBFWA’s marquee event, Mercedes-Benz Presents.”

Since the debut of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia, Mercedes-Benz has extended its support for fashion across the world with editions of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week hosted in key locations around the world. The brand is currently active at around 80 fashion events in over 40 countries.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia launches on Monday 11 May at Carriageworks in Sydney, and other special venues until Friday 15 May. MBFWA is owned and operated by IMG, a global leader in fashion events and talent representation.
