So when Aussie motorcycle pair Troy O'Connor and Mark Davidson took on the legendary Dakar Rally this year – tackling the harshest terrain Peru, Argentina and Chile can offer – every aspect of their challenge was based on reliability and strength.
Which is why their support vehicle was a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 4x4 which had been specially customised by TRAKKA, and it didn’t let them down.
Jeff Cripps, TRAKKA’s Service Manager, was behind the wheel for the entire 6,200 km journey.
“It was an amazing, multi-task vehicle that was our transport, shelter, accommodation, workshop, communication base and national symbol all in one,” Jeff said.
“The van transported all the crew and all the gear needed for our mobile motorbike workshop with comfort and ease, over all manner of terrain, and the 4x4 facility helped us get out of some sticky situations a lot easier than some of the heavier, more elaborate setups.”
TRAKKA works with the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter regularly, turning them into their two- or four-berth Jabiru motor homes. The van that did the Dakar was a Jabiru – with a difference.
