A Mercedes-Benz Sprinter has been turned into the perfect vehicle for the best of British Bulldogs.
Jane Wigley has been breeding British Bulldogs for five years.
“My daughter got me into it really,” she said. “She started us with one which all of a sudden became 13. They are such good natured dogs. They are really nice to be around.”
Of course Jane only wants the best for her animals, which is why she recently bought a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.
Based at Somerville on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, Jane is regularly on the road taking her animals to dog shows near and far.
“We’ve been looking recently at going to a show in Adelaide which is about 800 kilometres away, and travelling that kind of distance in the van is going to be much nicer for me and the dogs,” she said.
The cargo area of the Sprinter has been refurbished to make sure the dogs are comfortable and stay stress free during any journey.
Roomy kennels have been fitted in the rear, storage has been built in, and separate air-conditioning installed.
“Bulldogs are sensitive to the heat and if they get overheated they can die which is why the air-conditioning is so important,” Jane said.
“When it gets hot at home the dogs go into air-conditioned rooms until it cools down.”
Before buying the Sprinter, Jane travelled to shows behind the wheel of a large, heavy 4WD, towing the dogs in a sizeable trailer.
“My husband was always worried about my safety towing the trailer, which is the key reason we bought the Sprinter,” Jane said.
“We asked around about what sort of van we should buy and heard some bad stories about some makes. Mercedes-Benz, on the other hand, has a reputation for safety and performance.”
Mercedes-Benz not only sold Jane the Sprinter, but also assisted with the refurbishment for her as well.
“And as soon as my new Sprinter was ready, they delivered it right to me”
