Crosswind Assist is standard for the panel van with a permanent GVW of 3.55t or 3.88t in mid, long or extra-long lengths with a standard or high roof.
The Crosswind Assist detects sudden strong wind blasts impacting the vehicle laterally and helps to avoid that the vehicle unintentionally drifts away via targeted, one-sided intervention on the brake. The Crosswind Assist works at a speed from 80 km/h up to maximum vehicle speed.
When a wind blast is registered the wheels facing the wind side are braked according to the situation. The braking pressure depends in this case on the wind strength. The system cannot be deactivated by the driver. In cases of a considerable system intervention the driver is informed via the instrument cluster. In the low-line instrument cluster the ESP-warning lamp will illuminate while a text message is given additionally in the display.
Slight system intervention will not be notified.
When the system recognises a safety critical situation (for example ESP-intervention, aquaplaning) the Crosswind Assist will not intervene. The steering behaviour gives information whether the driver is active and already compensating through steering correction. In this case the intervention of the system will diminish.
