Our production-related environmental strategy
Daimler AG sees itself as a company that sets the pace for eco-compatible innovation in vehicle production. Our production goal is to make all stages of production as environmentally sound as possible. The main fields of activity in this sector include air pollution prevention, climate protection and resource conservation.
Air pollution control
The very nature of vehicle production leads to the creation of air pollutants such as sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and dust. Through the use of new technologies and clean fuels however, Daimler AG has already significantly reduced emissions of all these pollutants in recent years. It remains our goal to maintain our low level of production emissions, and also to achieve further reductions where technologically and economically possible.
Energy and climate protection
In order to reduce CO2 emissions at our plants, we strive to utilise energy as efficiently as possible and where feasible we also use energy sources such as natural gas that are low in carbon.
Waste prevention and recycling
When it comes to waste management, we believe prevention and recycling is better than disposal. Accordingly, the reconditioning and reuse of raw materials has been standard practice at Daimler AG for some years now.
Water protection
We aim to use this precious commodity as sparingly as possible and avoid contaminating water resources. In order to conserve water, we make use of resource-efficient systems such as closed-loop systems. As a result, the water consumption for vehicles built at Daimler AG production facilities has fallen dramatically in recent years.
Soil conservation
Keeping soil and groundwater clean is one of the most important aspects of environmentally-sound production at Daimler AG. Our primary goal in this respect is to prevent any contamination from the outset by using equipment such as collecting trays, double-walled containers, sealed floor coverings and leakage warning systems that help prevent water-polluting fluids from entering the ground.
Suppliers and environmental protection
The aim of making production operations as environmentally sound as possible doesn't end at our own facilities, but also applies to materials and components purchased from suppliers. Special attention is paid to material selection criteria and recycling requirements. We also analyse their utilisation of environmentally-friendly technologies, materials and production techniques to ensure a well-rounded focus of sustainable production.
